Curriculum Programs

Our curriculum in Years 7 to 10 is developed from the Australian Curriculum, as well as Brisbane Catholic Education's Religious Education curriculum. In the senior school our offerings are drawn from the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority's suite of senior subjects, as well as Vocational Education and Training options that are reviewed against the evolving needs of our students.

Philosophy Program for Years 7 to 10

Watch the videos below to discover San Sisto College's Philosophy Program and how it helps our students at school and beyond the college gates.

Over the past five years, the College has grown a Junior School Philosophy program. Students from Years 7 to 10 have participated in a Philosophy class either once a week for a year, or twice a week for a semester. The purpose of the program is to introduce and enhance critical thinking skills through collaborative strategies. This program is unique to San Sisto College working in partnership with the University of Queensland's Critical Thinking Project.  When students were interviewed about the Philosophy program, they stated that Philosophy strengthened:

  • Critical thinking strategies
  • Respectful and effective communication
  • Listening and responding skills
  • Questioning skills
  • Confidence
  • Problem solving
  • Recall and retention of information
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Skill transference across subjects and extended to work and home environments
