The Australian Olympic Change-Maker program recognises and rewards students who are demonstrating the Olympic spirit through leadership and driving positive change in their communities. In 2020, the San Sisto College recipients of this award were Brooke Smith and Akayla Quinton. This program and the corresponding award allows us a great opportunity to showcase the work being done by these two students across multiple sporting areas at our College. Together, they will both receive a certificate of recognition and attended a virtual summit with Mrs Hamilton and myself. The summit was telecast across Queensland and was hosted by Brooke Hanson OAM (Swimming – Gold and Silver Medallist, Athens 2004), with a panel consisting of Melissa Wu (Diving – Silver Medallist, Rio 2016, London 2012 and Beijing 2008), Steven Solomon (Athletics – London 2012), Chloe Dalton (Rugby – Gold Medallist, Rio 2016), Beki Smith (Athletics – London 2012), Kyle Vander-Kuyp (Athletics – Sydney 2000, Atlanta 1996) and Taliqua Clancy (Beach Volleyball – Rio 2016). Congratulations Brooke and Akayla, you have been incredible ambassadors of San Sisto College and its sporting culture.
