Three students received an invitation to the 'Women in Aviation' careers day sponsored by Qantas. The immersion provided an opportunity to learn about what was required to have a career in the aviation industry. They learnt about many jobs available in the aviation industry, including Air Traffic Controllers, Military Fixed Wing and Helicopter Pilots, Aeromedical Pilots, Military Aviation Squadron Leaders, Commercial Pilots, Aviation Airport Fire Fighters, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, Boeing Development Managers and Airport Civil Engineers.
The students were also lucky enough to climb onto the flight deck and undertake a pre-flight walk-around inspection of a Boeing 737, the most popular airplane in the world and a QantasLink Dash 8-200, which travels to regional airports in Australia with Qantas Engineers and Qantas Pilots.
The day provided much information about career options, training paths, mentoring and the support avenues available to young women embarking on an aviation career.
