A FIRST Robotics Bechtel Rookie Grant has equipped the San Sisto College Robotics team with an Advanced New Robot to Build for Competition – one of only two all-girls’ schools competing!
San Sisto College is one of only two all-girls schools in Queensland competing in the FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC), opening exciting pathways for young women in engineering, technology, and innovation.
Building on several successful years of Robotics Club, students from Years 7 to 11 are taking their skills to the next level - designing, building, and coding a competition-ready robot with mentors and coaches, Mr Stuart Gillett and Mrs Liisa Miner.
A FIRST Robotics Bechtel Rookie Grant has equipped the team with an FTC Starter Kit V3.1, packed with essential REV DUO components for prototyping and competition. FTC challenges teams of up to 15 students to think like engineers as they create and program robots for fast-paced, alliance-based matches. Along the way, students strengthen their problem-solving, teamwork, communication, leadership, and technical skills - while building confidence for future STEM study and careers.
The team will put its creation to the test at the National Qualifying Competition in November, aiming to progress to the National Championship at Macquarie University in Sydney in early December. Watch this space - our future innovators are powering up!
